Abstract:
Surgeries have beensignificantly advanced with the help of robotic technologies in past decades ascan be witnessed from numerous industrial and research outcomes. Motivated tofurther reduce the invasiveness of robotic-assisted surgery, various roboticplatforms have been proposed or developed to benefit the clinical applicationsthrough single port or natural orifice access to reach operation site insidepatient body. However, there are still challenges to implement minimallyinvasive surgery with these surgical robotic systems, such as the design, control, sensation of surgical robots with specific clinical applications, etc.
This talk will present therecent research achievements and advances of surgical robotics, particularly, more and more research emphasis are placed to the surgical robots that arecompliant, continuum, cognitive, and collaborative (C4 Robots). It is envisionedthat the C4 surgical robots will integrate the emerging technologies in softrobotics, co-robotics, and artificial intelligence in the near future, whichwill be discussed in the talk.
